Well, I spent my lunch hour at a field... I only went through less than a quarter of it... and I was pretty excited. Being a newbie, flakes excite me... I am not sure if you seasoned veterans get the same thrill. What do you guys do with worked flakes like this? Do you consider them just trash? Well, I think I found my first broken point... that pointy thing... is broken on the left side and bottom, but it's worked on both sides like a point. Also, what do you guys make of that rock with the divots on it? I realize those divots look natural, but I don't think they are. It looks worn and the one has what appears to be a tiny flake. The back side of that stone is flaked away (not in a methodical manner at all, but clearly flaked.) Any ideas what that might be, if anything? Also, the piece in the lower left corner is worked on both sides into a nice edge, but I'm not sure if it's complete or broken.

Brokes and flakes are better than finding nothing. At least you know its going to be a good field to go back to. After a year or so if you put all the flakes and debitage in a bucket you will have to wonder where to put it. I buried mine in a hole in the back yard that needed filling. I dont save it anymore.

What's the deal with the large workede pieces? Some have work done on both sides... Are they broken tools of some kind or just large pieces knocked off of something they were working on? I understand it's difficult to say going by photos... But what do you think?

The piece in the dead center is shaped like a football, with edges worked... But it's broken on the top and bottom.., I think it's a broken tool of sorts

We keep everything we pick up and put it in a path around our pond, looks awesome when wet. Some of those that have a worked edge were probably just used once and discarded.

If I find large chunks of flint/chert, I put it in my rock garden.
It looks like two of your pieces were worked, but sometimes when they were making
an arrowhead, it would break the wrong way, and they would just throw it away.
I think that's what happened with both of those points.
