My best 'find' of 2014...

Visiting the USS Arizona memorial, I bought a cup of coffee at dockside. In my change, I received a beautiful 1958 silver quarter. Looking out at the Arizona, I was humbled and grateful. I treasure that quarter more than the platinum ring I detected. True story.​

The Arizona is a memorial today, but in 1956 she hadn't been stricken from the Navy records, she was still a commissioned ship in the United States Navy, and all hands were mustered aboard every day. Twice a day a detachment of Marines would go out and raise and lower the national colors. Navy ships entering and leaving Pearl Harbor rendered passing honors, and I had the privilege of rendering honors a couple of times.
