Hello all,

It's been too hot here lately to do much metal detecting, but not all good treasures come out of the ground! Today something told me to head to the flea market to see if there were any good buys to be had. I'm glad I did, because today I came across one of the best and rarest finds I have ever found... an original .577 caliber Enfield bullet mold :o . I saw it laying on a dealers table with an old lead melting pot. When I picked it up, I immediately knew what it was. Obviously the next thing to do was to ask how much it is. Expecting him to say a high price, I was floored when he said $10!!! I think it scared him how fast I had the money in his hand ;D . Once I got my new found treasure in the car, I took a better look at it and saw the "L.A.C." mark which stands for "London Armoury Company". I could hardly wait to cast the first bullet, so I went straight home and did so! It turns out that the mold cavity itself is in pretty good condition with no bad gouges or corrosion. I haven't dug a dropped Enfield bullet yet, so the newly casted bullet is shown next to a fired Enfield that I dug earlier this year. I have always wanted one of these, but could never afford one. I bid on one on Ebay a few years ago and I lost it after a $650 bid! I don't know what the price is now, but I'm sure it's a lot more than $10  . All in all I am pretty happy with the new addition to my collection.

Happy Hunting!!

That's freaking AWESOME!!! Way to keep your eyes open. :icon_thumleft:

That's a GREAT Buy!!! That's the first gray cast Enfield bullet I have ever seen. WTG and enjoy your find. That mold is armory marked and the latest CW price guide lists it ass $300-450 in non-excavated condition. WTG, Quindy.

Thanks for the reply guys :icon_thumleft: , and thanks for the price info Quindy. I've always wanted one of these to go along with my original 1853 Enfield, so I'll probably never sell it! Thanks again for the replies. HH!

That is one awesome Relic! :headbang:

That is awesome and it's usable, LOL! Sounds like an investment as well since you know what they can sell for. I found half of a musket ball mold yesterday, I'll post it later but I'm going back to the field where I found it and look for the other half after lunch. HH, Mike

That's a super find. If you live any where near Chattanooga give me a PM and I will give you a dropped enfield bullet.

Whats the odds at one of those? Wow, that is a sweet find! :headbang:

WOW! WO! WOW! I'm glad you saved this awesome relic from someone that didn't know what it was. It could have ended up making fishing sinkers. LOL What a great find!

WOOOHOO Awesome find buddy!! Thats most likely the first bullet cast outta that mold in 150 years!!! how kewl is that!!! if your Enfield is in shootable condition it would be awful neat to cast a few bullets and send em!!!

What a fantastic find and great piece of history. :hello2: Congrats to you PinFire.

That's sweet! This is why I go to estate sales and garage sales a lot in the summer, you never know what you'll get. I do know that a lot of the time people just don't know the value of things, and often don't do their research before they sell things. I haven't been to any flea markets yet, but maybe I should start goin to those.

Great Save! Congrats on getting a beautiful piece of history

so so cool imagine where that thing has been all these years

ah -now that is a great find! and casting your own is an art! congrats on a great deal! :icon_thumright:

I'd say that's the deal of the year there: TEN BUCKS! That's an incredible find and you definitely made your money many, many times over. A great piece of history and still molds perfect bullets like the day it was manufactured; Congrats :icon_thumleft:
