Managed to get out two times this week-end despite the unusually hot and humid weather for this time of year. Decided to explore an other area at my newest permission and I believe the time spent was well worth it.

My best find of the week-end was my biggest and best preserved Fur Trade axe. Discovered it hidden deep in a large pile of rocks which shielded it from the contact with the humid soil, thus the very little accumulation of rust. Makes me wonder who put it there and why he never managed to recover it around 250 years ago.

The rest of my hunts where pretty uneventful with no old relics other than a late 1700's Hibernia halfpenny that someone made into a button. I did stumble upon a not so old hunting camp of some sort and recover a good number of early to mid 1900's coins with a good amount of silver.

As well as a silver religious pendant.

Very happy with that Trade axe as they are pretty rare where I'm at,especially in this condition.

Thanks for the comments.

Look at all that silver. That is amazing! Way to go on a great haul.

Wow, Aureus! That's a helluva' fine axe! Congrat's!!

WOW, what an awesome trade axe & a beautiful pendant, that's quite a haul on the coins too, congrats on saving the history & HH

That is a "Tree Feller" for sure. Looks to have had a mark at one time but has corroded out. I would give it a nice coating of bees wax. Super find!

Thanks Rege-PA. That's probably the only one of my axes that I'm going to restore.

I am gonna go out on a limb... but not really that far... by saying...

Banner.

Well done... and then some.

Thanks AARC

Thanks AARC

Np.

Aureus... afterthoughts on your FTA....your find is obviously beyond the general consensus here.

I am not sure if anyone else realizes the significance of your find.

When it comes to antiquities... two things are at play in determining the "value"... not just monetarily... but in general.

#1. Scarcity. (this size is RARE)
#2. Condition. (stellar for dug)

That head is a 10 on a 10 scale for a dug head... IMO.

This is definitely a banner find.

PS... any way you can post measurements ?

Thanks again AARC. The axe is around 9,25" long, 4,5 pounds.

This head looks so good that if found round me I would definitely call it a re-pop... I say this because the condition is so good.
Now I know that stuff out of your ground looks way better than stuff out of my ground... so blah blah blah.

Regardless...

Restore it... preserve it... and most of all... Display it. :)

If ever there was an axe head that was worthy of a banner... this is it.

Again... Well done.

Man what a great group of finds! Congrats :icon_thumleft:

That axe is amazing! I bet with the correct preservation you could get it to look almost new! Congrats!!!! Great piece to display!

Thanks xcopperstax
