Last week all my hunting buddies were working or out of town so I went out for a couple hours. I decided to go to a very large camp that I have been hunting for quite some time. It is very heavily wooded and has an earthen fort on it as well. It was first used by the Confederates to guard a railroad bridge until the Yankees attacked and captured the bridge. The area then became a large Union winter camp. We have found over 300 bullets and 50 or 60 buttons (all GS eagles), best dug bayonet I have ever seen, 1838 dime, gun parts and many other great relics. Well last week I found a Gardner bullet in an area of the woods that I have never hunted. So today my buddies Sham, Bob and I decided to go back in there and see if we could find any more. Well Sham dug this beauty near where I found the Gardner. We also found more bullets and buttons but this completely overshadowed everything we found. I have never seen one of these rounded corners plate and was wondering if this was an earlier plate. I did manage to find a few things such as a General Service Staff button, three ringer, some brass, percussion cap, pocket knife, carved bullet made into game piece possibly checkers and a brass thingy still needing indentified.

Wow. Awesome plate!! :occasion14: We"ll probably see that one on the banner. I'll start the nomination process now. :laughing7:

Just added the video of the day. We started out in the woods until it warmed up then we moved to our CS artillery hill site.

A very good day! Congrats

Just WOW. Never seen one exactly like that, and I offer my very jealous congratulations!

incredible find!

Curious to hear the R number on that one! :occasion14:

...and on camera too... doesn't get any better than that! :headbang:

Really great find! I've seen a couple of those but it seems the 'CS' letters were larger than the one he found. Thanks for sharing and really happy for the finder.

Great find by your friend. That's most assuredly one he'll remember for a long time to come.

Great hunt you guys had a blast.Enjoyed the video and enthusiasm. Still had the black paint on it. Being deep preserved it well. Congratulations and good luck in your next hunt.

That is a great find... Big Congrats!!!

Congratulations. Awesome buckle. Nice bunch of saves. Thanks for sharing. Got pretty excited myself.

Killer finds, congrats!!

oh man, that has to be super rare and worth a big heapin' sack of money

I very much enjoyed the video. Where I live in NC not much CW activity so I have to live vicariously through videos and photos I see here in the forum. Wish you much future success.

Waiting to dig one of those plates

really unusual CS plate. Not like one in the books. It has sort of a 'hybrid' look of plate 139 with the small CS letters, plate 115 the 'sardine can' style associate with the Army of TN, and the more common cast plate 105 in Mullinax's book. It is hard to see the back from the video. It appears to be a stamped plate in the glimpse in the video. Can you post a good photo of the back? Would really like to see a clear pic of the back...
