Is it glazed, or just wet in the picture? Very decorative.

Great piece of pottery!

Give us a story on it like the age and what the dots and raised section is for also what state.

Wow, now that's a killer shard!

ThAnks everyone.
The piece is wet in the picture. I have no idea about it. I've found plenty with the different line patterns but I'm unfamiliar with the circles and "knob"
It is a rom piece.
I'd be grateful for input

Found in sc

Nice piece of pottery, interesting design.

Greetings Mrtodd, nice finds, pot sherd diagnostics are highly geographical, please tell us where you're located. It might help someone give more helpful information.

I found in Columbia sc in river. The broad river and saluda rivers meet in Columbia to form the congaree river.

Nice find the small circles look like bead indents , I don't know anything about pottery is there any cultures that decorated with beads .... Would sure add some nice color and design to the pottery.

I think arrow86 has an interesting observation there. I have never heard of, or seen any American pre-historic pottery with beads embedded, but they could have used them to make those indentations. Or maybe something similar like the blunt end of a hollow reed, which might allow them to easily blow out any wet clay that could clog the stem?

It looks to me like the edge of the sherd running up past your index finger (in the first picture) is part of the rim of the original vessel, if so, the protrusion probably served as a "lug" handle.

good one, great color too

My guess is incised not stamped and by someone with some artistic skills. Mississipian era they had the time to be creative and it shows and the piece you found.

I have a pottery book but havent looked it up yet been working crazy lately, many hours. If nobody gives any info on it maybe I can get a day off and look it up. I will check back later.
