My 6 year old daughter accompanied me while taking photos of a foreclosed home and found this 1979 - 10 Centavo ???Gold??? Coin next to the front door. This I find hilarious since I've been MD'ing a few years now and gold has eluded me. ;D Sorry that the photos are a little blurry but I couldn't get the macro setting on.

Ernie

The 1979 10 Centavo is copper-nickel. This one appears to be gold plated.

nice find at any rate, especially for a kid! nice job!

Re: My daughter found GOLD!

Who cares what it's made of - awesome find regardless! Tell your daughter CONGRATS!!!

I bring my 5 year old with me (she's the official pinpointer) and it doesn't matter what we find - it's all treasure to her - and that in itself is the greatest treasure there is...

I should have done my research before posting but the coin is definitely not gold and most likely gold plated for ceremonial purposes, I guess. I initially thought they were "Arras". (Definition : In Spain, Panama, and Mexico, grooms give their brides 13 gold coins as a sign of their wealth and ability to provide for their marriage. The priest will bless these coins during the ceremony and be handed back and forth between the bride and groom, ultimately ending in the hands of the bride. A new tradition involves the bride bringing her own coins to exchange, showing equality in the responsibility of the success of the marriage.) But "Arras" are of a different denomination and are gold, not gold plated. :D

But one thing is for sure, the look on my daughters face was PRICELESS. :icon_sunny:

A copper coin that is gilt?

She will never make it into medical school like this!
Whether or not you are joking you should not be making comments like this about the mans daughter. I'm offended.

Thanks dex378 for being a galant gentleman! I deeply appreciate it! Its best to ignore these kind of white-livered comments. If anything, you have to pity the poor nincompoop :P

No, I just realized that in my post I did not congratulate ecastro111 on the cool find.
Your post just reminded me

Your daughter made a fantastic find, but you have to watch out for beginners and newbies, they'll do it to you every time!

Congradulations to the six year old. My six year old grandson finds 22 cal. bullets. This is great.
