My detector is being neglected.

Ever since I found my river bank dump back in early October I haven't touched my detector but oh we'll it's not as satisfying as finding the profile of an old bottle in the dirt. Well anywho I did a little digging yesterday and like the tittle of an other post I never leave empty handed. Here's today's take . A doct Marshall snuff bottle, a dr j hostetters stomach bitters and an unassuming unembossed med. thanks for looking- Justin

Thanks bass assassin this is one I've been wanting to dig for a while. The bottle is absolutely perfect no scratches or cracks.

Hey thats a good find. Those bottles sell at a wide range all the time from $15.00 to $50.00. .. Cool bottle. I am a fan of the bitters. Glad to see its in good shape. I also understand what you meant about your metal detector. I haven't used mine for about 9 months but plan to very soon. Good luck and thanks for posting those extra pictures.

You sound just like me. I found about 5 dumps here in town and the detectors just sit and collect dust. It doesn't help when you are pulling unknown bottles from your hometown!

That sounds correct, and is what I was guessing.

"...The Wilsons (1969:34) noted that S. McKee made the first embossed Hostetter’s bottles in 1859, so containers produced by other makers should be dated after that time…" http://www.sha.org/bottle/pdffiles/BLockhart_Ihmsen.pdf

During the heyday of Hostetters, I think nearly every glass house in Pittsburgh was making them. I've got a McCulley and half a Chambers Bros. It would be an interesting study to see all the glass house variants.
