My Favorite Patch...59TH FIS - "Freicudan Du", What's Your's?

This is my fathers patch when we were stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador ("The Goose") 1963-'64.

I learned that it is not an "official" patch, as it is not within the design parameters for official patches. It was designed for the 59TH Fighter Interceptor Squadron. The red eyed bat represents the night flying capabilities of the squadron.

The words "Freicudan Du" are Welsh and stand for "Black Watch".

Do you folks have a favorite patch?

My favorite patch is from the Big 22: 22nd Tactical Fighter Squadron - Last of the Red Hot Fighter Squadrons. Of course, I was actually in this squadron, too.

Which wartime version would you like? Grenada? Gulf War I? Gulf War II? GWOT? Iraq or Afghanistan?

My Dad wore this patch while stationed at Kingsley Field in Oregon. He was killed in an aviation incident in November 1968 while in an F-101B Voodoo. Unfortunately we were not allowed to retain any of his squadron patches from the 59th FIS after his death. I've always wanted one of these to put in a memorial shadow box for him. I currently have all of his other "Previous" squadron and assorted patches that he wore on his flight suit. All of which currently reside in his memorial shadow box.

Also, from what I remember about the squadron, (based on things my mom and dad spoke of) the official/un-official "Alcohol" was Bacardi Rum. My dad would have fellow squadron mates over for bbq's and post deer hunting expeditions and the only liquor I ever saw was Bacardi Rum or Budwiser Beer.

I wore this patch for 3 years. It's the 1st Armored Division which was in Germany at the time. :occasion14:
