Metal Detecting
Never found a large cent before, was looking for a Canadian Largie as they are called for over two years, found one on Sunday Oct18th 2026, this might sound strange, but had asked G-d to help me find one, and He did, even one of my passwords had the prayer! Finally found a large cent (a 1907) with the king on it, I'm happy it doesn't have to be a 19th century, 1907's close enough! There's a time for everything it says in the Bible! I've never mentioned faith before because normally it's probably politically incorrect and some people might cringe but did ask to find in 2026 and the Heavens responded and was faithful while I am certainly not.. was very tough finding one having had done over 110 metal detecting outings for over two years..

The large cent was found using the Minelab Manticore and Garrett carrot pin-pointer. thp.

Nice find. And two years doesn't seem that long -- I've been hunting off an on since I was a teenager (back when I lived next door to Fred Flintstone) and I've not found one yet.

Do you mean a Canadian large cent or American? The American large cents I think are notoriously difficult to find in the field? Sorry about that, I understand the frustration as I would watch the posts here 'n' there over the internet's multiple sites and would think to myself, how is it even possible, having covered approximately 1,200,000 square yards in 110 plus outings to no avail. And my sites were not modern land, they were mostly old, at least not modern areas or ones with backfill. I had a few permissions that was and still is my problem. I would recommend you to target permissions and not take rejections to heart as they speed up the finds massively. This though was not a permission land find, it was a park find. The dynamics of where to look are immensely complex, sometimes backfill contains old coins, as the City uses their backfill dumps to make new embankments in parks, etc. So, no hard 'n' fast rule of where to exactly look for old coins. Old churches or private homes built 1920s or before are of course the best but how to get those permissions without being turned down. Gift of the gab helps which I don't have and alligator skin which unfortunately I don't have either..

Either one. I have yet to find any kind of large cent.
Hmm, in an old park, stick to the lower side of a trail, not the higher side, people were lazy and still are, go in approximately 40 yards in from the trail where late 19th or early 20th Victorians were probably hiding either from the sun or from other people spotting them. That’s where I found mine! Low packed treed flat area, as I am showing in one of the photos. As I said, highly unlikely to find again for me, next season I will hopefully be asking more permissions, way less guesswork if one were to find anything old or not. And will wear egg on my face if they tell me no🤨…
