Finally, after what must be about 30 visits to the old schoolhouse, I found something worthwhile! Back in the corner, under the trees, popped out a 1934 quarter. And along the fence line was an Indian head penny.
The two other finds pictured are an illegible wheat penny ( I think I can make out 191...) and part of what looks to be a button of an eagle holding an anchor.
The silver is my first American silver coin since I started detecting almost 2 years ago. A lot of that time was spent getting to know my machine in the sand on the beach and in the wood chips at tot lots. And I haven't yet found any really good old sites that might have silver. But now I'm heading back to the schoolhouse for the 32nd time!
One change I made to the settings on my MXT that seemed to make the difference this time was to run the gain all the way to the top. Since I had already removed a lot of the surface junk I figured I might be able to get more depth now without as much interference. So I cranked it up and was getting some faint but clean signals at about 8 inches. The quarter was down about 6 inches and the Indian down to at least 8 inches.
