Olderactor,

I don't know for sure, but it appears like your dime has been counterstamped. I heard that sometimes people would stamp a coin like that so that it could be identified as a coat-check or hat-check token. Or, maybe someone was just messing around with tools and decided to deface currency.

Either way, nice early Barber dime! I'm looking to break the 1900 mark for Barbers soon. Hopefully.

Joe

Ok, is that a 1894 or 1904 date? Just saw it again and it's hard to tell from the scan.

Congrats on your first Barber Jim! Now they are going to just start sticking to your coil wherever you go! How deep was it down and did you have to squeak it out of there with the E-Trac or was it singing??

As far as the stamping, I'll have to agree with Joe.

HH! Brett

Damn those chopmarks!!!! Great find none the less!!!

Yep, '04 Joe. No that mark did not come with the coin. Most likely some idle tooling time by some kid long ago.

Congrats and here's to your next being better!

Anybody have any idea what this stamp in the center is? The detail on the coin is fairly good and this stamp appears to be consistent with the rest of the markings. This is my first Barber.

Thanks
