:o Defintely lower than I was expecting.

4 wheats
2 pre '97 CADs
296 coppers

Many, many, many boxes more to report. Hopefully better than 12%!!

Wow, that is very low. I am at 30% in the Upper Midwest.

In Canada I got what looks like about 40% or so copper.

wow, that is low. i usually average around 17-18%, but had a few boxes that got me 23%.

And yours are 97% up until '97 right? (So 1996 and older.)

That's a tough box, but they happen. I usually do a bit better around 17-22%.

Just to add a data point. In the Midwest, I'm at ~24%, 26% if you include '82 coppers (which i find to be almost 80% of all '82s). My wheats have been a little poor - only ~0.4% (1 per 5 rolls)

^ I started weighing my '82s this weekend and was suprised to find that the majority are copper. I was expecting about 50% to be zinc.

Thanks man. I am only doing this until I have $500FV of copper. I believe that is 340 LBS. then it's back to silver, hunting dimes/halves. Hopefull the declined price of silver will thwart off so many new people from hunting.

I got burned out hunting for silver, and that's somthing I thought I'd never say.

Pennies are a great change of pace and I highly recommend it to anyone feeling like they are getting burned out on dimes/halves. Get $500FV of copper, box it up, and stash it away for 10 years or until you 5X your initial investment.

Easy.

keep at it Happy it will go up as you get a larger sample size.

Also try to stay away from banks that get coins from the Federal Reserve for pennies, likely to get more Zinc that way I would think.

Canada has an advantage in that they were copper through 1996 I believe.

And 97% copper as opposed to 95%

You are completely right exept they were 98% copper

I had $5.73 in my last box...what's that? Little over 20% I guess. You will find plenty, keep hunting!

ya Canadian pennies are 98% copper, i suppose thats a few extra bucks in the long run over 95% but the big advantage is in the 14 years production.

Would love to see how you make out on $500 FV copper cents, do you special order these pennies, or just go to random banks and ask for a box or 2?

most banks always seem happy to get rid of pennies, ask for a couple here and there, they always order more to maintain the "branch" setpoint but they never use that much.

There are so many banks in Phoenix, I just hit them up on my lunch break, usually 2-4 banks. So I don't have to special order them. Plus, by hitting alot of banks, it's a good excuse for me to hunt for halves.
edit: I try and get 1-2 boxes per bank.

By the way, that is $500FV of copper I'll be HOARDING, not total search. So $500FV is 50,000 pennies I'll hoard, at a 16% average return means I have to search through 312,500 total pennies which equates to 125 boxes. I think I did that right. At two boxes a day, that will take me 63 days best case scenario. Ughh, Im getting a Ryedale.

+1

I want a ryedale just to have one, maybe someday!!! let us all know how you do with it!!!! Also, just saying, if you look at my penny totals under my signature below my posts, I have searched EXACTALLY $501.00 in pennies this year, yup, i keep records down to the penny. :laughing9:
Just letting you have an idea on what I am averaging. 18.35 wheats per box as of January 17 when my first penny box was.

Cool, nice job on that 1908 IH. What has been your copper % average for the $501? 18-22%?
