Took advantage of the "warm" ny weather to hunt my old standby today, an early 1800s homesite.. I found my first intact crotal bell with jingle!! anyone out there skilled in crotal identification? There's a B stamped on one side of the slit, a W on the other. Not sure if it's a maker's mark.

I took a coffee break after a few hours and on my way back i thought to myself, I hope i find something cool to restore using my new electrolysis set-up.. the very first plug was an old tack hammer! So pumped. I'm going to try to restore it back to it's original form with new handle. I'll post pics if it comes out nice.

Other notables, two buff nickels in the same plug, dandy button avec fancy, two locks, spike, and other assorted items that will further clutter up my home.

Have a great holiday everyone!

Very nice collection of relics! :icon_thumleft:

I hope you meant to write “crotal bell”. Why? Because a “scrotal ball” is a testicle.

Time for more coffee.

I like the locks the best they'd look good cleaned up .

I don't mind that type of clutter at all. Lol Well Done on some nice finds and saves. I like the old bell and the locks. I found a lock like the second one you have pictured a little while back. It had the small brass keyhole cover still attached and the cover was stamped U.S. This was a war period lock from the Civil War and looks like your lock, just minus the cover. These will display well.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

lmfao. you keep that scrotal bell wrapped up. Nobody needs to see that. :laughing9:

Great find! Love those bells

I found that exact same lock as the round one last week. A week before that I found a key hole plate, then week later here comes the lock. I also think it’s funny that William Barton didn’t put his initials correctly on the bell. He put the B at the top, and W at the bottom.

Congrats on your first Crotal Bell, and the rest of those relics.

Thanks guys for helping me with the ID of the bell! I can't stop playing with it. it's in very good shape. Can you guys recommend a process for cleaning the bell? I believe it's brass.

Regarding the "tack" hammer: Upon further inspection, I don't believe it's a hammer. The shaft just doesn't look right. I'm guessing just a part of old farm equipment. Oh well... doesn't mean I can't turn it into a hammer, right? Lol

Do you guys happen to have photos of your locks? I'd love to see the variations and conditions! I am going to try and restore mine at some point. The round lock almost looks too far gone for restoration. I'll probably give it a bath in electricity and evaporust and call it a day. :)

I think this deserves banner just because I almost peed my pants when I read the post title. Now that’s classic!!
