Took advantage of the "warm" ny weather to hunt my old standby today, an early 1800s homesite.. I found my first intact crotal bell with jingle!! anyone out there skilled in crotal identification? There's a B stamped on one side of the slit, a W on the other. Not sure if it's a maker's mark.

I took a coffee break after a few hours and on my way back i thought to myself, I hope i find something cool to restore using my new electrolysis set-up.. the very first plug was an old tack hammer! So pumped. I'm going to try to restore it back to it's original form with new handle. I'll post pics if it comes out nice.

Other notables, two buff nickels in the same plug, dandy button avec fancy, two locks, spike, and other assorted items that will further clutter up my home.

Have a great holiday everyone!

Do you guys happen to have photos of your locks? I'd love to see the variations and conditions! I am going to try and restore mine at some point. The round lock almost looks too far gone for restoration. I'll probably give it a bath in electricity and evaporust and call it a day. :)

I’ve not ran my through electrolysis yet either. I’d planned on it, and then I was going to post a better pic. Funny yours, and mine look exactly identical including how rusted they are.

Hahaha. Gotta knock the rust off my jingle jangle somehow!

I hope you meant to write “crotal bell”. Why? Because a “scrotal ball” is a testicle.

Time for more coffee.

Complete with a little "jingle jangle." Reminds me of a Frank Zappa song my brother used to play endlessly. "hey there people I'm Bobby Brown...."

Cool finds the lock is really cool would be fun to restore Happy New Year

The day I find one of those is the day I sell my detecter

Thanks guys for helping me with the ID of the bell! I can't stop playing with it. it's in very good shape. Can you guys recommend a process for cleaning the bell? I believe it's brass.

Regarding the "tack" hammer: Upon further inspection, I don't believe it's a hammer. The shaft just doesn't look right. I'm guessing just a part of old farm equipment. Oh well... doesn't mean I can't turn it into a hammer, right? Lol

That tack hammer is actually the jaw of an old adjustable wrench.
It would have looked similar to this one:

I’ve got one of them. It had the handle part broke off, but still adjusted. We used it on my grandmas old 8n ford, and I’d use it occasionally at work when I couldn’t get the drain plug off a ISX Cummins. I’d pit a cheater pipe on it, and crank her back

Very nice collection of old farm metal. Very nice bell.

Pretty funny.

Well the "S" key is not next to the "C" key on a keyboard so a "extra key hit typo" is prolly not the dealio... heh

PS...

It being a "scrotal ball" makes your find not that "rare"... beings they are everywhere... two of which are hanging on MOST men.

:P

Anyway...

Well done super cool find.

Cool finds, but this is the most glorious Auto-Correct boner of the century and deserves banner for that reason alone! :toothy4:

My dad about had a stroke when I showed him this thread, haha :laughing7:
