Well after a bunch of years of treasure hunting, I finally did it. I found my first piece of gold today with these old eyes.
I took the afternoon off drove an hour to an old park and started hunting about 3:30. After an hour of digging nothing but clad in the park, I just started walking down the street the park was on and was detecting the area between the curb and the sidewalk. I was ignoring shallow clad targets and hoping to hear some deep coins when there it was. As I bent to pick it up, I was thinking junk but it was clear that it wasn't when I got it in my hand. It is a really heavy 14k earring. I don't have scales yet but it weighs about as much as some of the smaller gold bands that I have found this year.
Cross another first experience off the list.
