My first find...it think? Can someone tell me what this is?

I found this on the shoreline at Mark Twain Lake State Park in Missouri. Some type of indian artifact, but I am unsure of what it is called or what is what used for.

Could someone enlighten me please.

I am no expert but , I would call it a scraper!

Stone 25¢ piece?

Is it stone? Bone? Metal?

Small for most tools. Maybe some type of tiny scraper - for fleshing out squirrel hides?

I am assuming that there is flaking present on both faces, or sides, and all around the edges.

If this is the case, then it is called a biface. Closer examination of the edges to determine platform preparation and any use-wear patterns if present would be needed to determine function.

Bifaces were a common tool, with a wide variety of uses. They could serve as cores, cutting tools, scrapers, and could even be made into a projectile point after serving in all of these roles.

It was basically a prehistoric 'Leatherman' tool.

Thank you for the info. The stone does has flaking around all edges and on both sides. It is about 1.5" in diameter.

How old would you say it is??

You have yourself a very nice artifact there! I would say also that it is a small knife/scraper. Nice find!
