I came upon a pile of large rocks… no other rocks in the area, at all, so found it very peculiar. Decided to roam with the detector and it was firing off alllllll around the pile. Mostly iron. It was getting dark so didn’t have much time left in the day and found these in a matter of 30 minutes! I’m itching to get back out there as you can imagine. My question is, could this be an old homesite or a dismantled camp? I live in Virginia and in an area of many civil war camps. I’m having a hard time placing the pipe. What is it? It’s heavy, copper colored after I scratched the edge of it.

Mmmm... could be.

It could be just that--an old copper pipe. If so, you likely have more than one thing going on, as (spam link removed) wasn't used for indoor plumbing until the early 20th C.

I do recognize what looks like a harmonica reed plate. No idea about the rest.

yeah I was thrown off by the pipe too because it did not fit with the other finds and the era. What also is throwing me off is the weight of it... it's quite heavy! The harmonica reed plate was my first big find. Going to head back out there this weekend and start my hunt in the am... I can see myself being out there all day with all the pings I was getting! Will keep you updated

Welcome to Tnet

That will be a tough one to track down. There seems to be some lettering enclosed in a panel at the left and possibly a second panel with additional wording. I can only make out an 'R' and possibly an ampersand (&) at the extreme left. Can you see anything more?

Bucket Lister, your "copper" spam link was removed, it violates our rules on spam.

Please do not post spam links, it violates our rules.

Ah good eye. I will have a closer look when I get home. I haven't wiped it with a damp cloth yet so I will do that too and see if I can make out anything else. The more I think about it this could be nickel and not copper. It is quite heavy.

First off, WELCOME to TreasureNet. :icon_thumright:
Congrats on the finds and discovering a location with relics. If I lived in VA. I would be out digging for CW relics as much as possible.
Am I seeing a coin in the photo or a flat button?
L@@king forward to seeing future posts from you.

Thanks ModernMiner, good to be here to share my finds. I'm new at this and I feel I'm in a great area for relic hunting so I should be updating frequently after my hunts!
That is a coin. It's super light/weight. I put it up against a penny and it is almost spot on the same size but not in thickness. I found it in a gully about 50 yards from the rock pile.
