I CAN'T BELIEVE IT FINALLY HAPPENED! I went to a park one town over today, I had never hunted there before but had done some research at the library and found out it was a huge clam market and factory in the 1800's. Well, I hunted for about 4 hours, determined to find that special gold ring. I dug 120+ pull tabs, a gold plated scissor charm, 11 memorials, 2 clad roosies, 1 Jefferson nickel, and then my Dad had had enough and said time to go. I convinced him to let me hunt by the road, an area I hadn't had a chance to search yet. I got about half way to the car along the street and BAM! An injun pop's outta the ground and stares me in the face, I was thrilled! We kept on walking along the road, obviously I was now in a much better mood, and I got an iffy Pop-Top signal. I new that I had about a one in 20,000 chance of this signal being my elusive gold ring, but decided to humor myself and dig it anyway. Well, convinced I would pull out a pop-top, I almost fainted when a STRANGE GOLD COLORED CIRCLE was staring me in the face. I read the inside and it said "W 14kP" I was a little dissapointed assuming the "P" stood for plate, but was happy with it anyway. On the ride home I started wondering.... I found it so close to the Indian, and so deep! And it doesn't show any signs of flaking or corrosion.... When I got home I showed it to my Mom and promptly googled 14kP. To my delight I found that the P sure as hell didn't stand for plate! And in fact would help me date the piece. I found that the P stood for plumb, in other words, the gold was exactly 14/24 Gold. This initial was introduced in the late eighteen hundreds to help ease the confusion between british and american gold hallmarks, and the mark was used most between 1890 and 1900! The same time period as the Indian! I didn't have a chance to do a comprehensive search of this new area, so you can guess where I'm going tomorrow! This is my first gold ring EVER! I was actually crying! I finally know what it feels like! Just what all of you have talked about, and what I have dreamed about countless times! I'm still in shock.... I hope you all like it. It's tiny, Either for a very petite woman or a pinky ring, it fits my pinky great! Any ideas what the W before 14k stands for? Thanks for even taking the time to look at my post!

Thanks for the support guys, I really appreciate it. Ya know, I looked at this site for years before I worked up the nerve to become a member and start posting, I'm so glad I did! Very supportive, nice people on this site. I would have joined sooner, but I was scared I would show you my finds and you would all be like "THAT SUCKS!!!! STOP POSTING!!!!" Not to mention when I was researching on the net and came across that post about a beach scoop and.... Yeah.... I'm glad I found the real (not to mention reale) attitude of this site.

Congrtats on you first gold ring. Your rings markings, the W could be the makers initial or a companies, the 14k is 58% gold and P stands for Plumb. Great find. HH and thanks for sharing.

Ted,
Way to go on your first gold ring Big Guy!!! I'm glad you stuck with it. It sure paid off for you, AND it was the real deal too.
Great job. It's still a thrill to to see gold staring up at you whether it's your first or twentieth.
Don't worry about posting pull tabs either. Some folks (I won't mention what states) think they are engagement rings. Shhhhhh, don't tell them any different. ;) ;D
Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Congrats,
MM
