I found this when I was 15 years old. I have had it on other forums, and still not 100% sure of what it is. It does have wear on the pole end, as well as a few plow dings. John

yeah, looks like a stone celt/axe/pounder for sure

I've seen a few grooved picks that look similar to that. I'd lean towards either a grooved pick or a hoe of some sort. It's flat on one side so they wanted to be able to get a linear strike or pull with that side.

half grooved adze, not a common artifact, very nice

Ok thanks guys. I think I'll go with grooved adz. thanks for the comments. seem like it was split last time between axe and adz. Adz makes more sence to me. I just have not seen anything like it before. SoIll, very nice celt you found for your first hardstone find. I contribute mine as maybe the one that got me hooked on this hobby so many years ago. thanks for the comment guys. John

My thought too was it being a grooved adz.
It probably was polished more at one time.
Being in the ground caused it to deteriorate.

Grooved adze is what comes to mind, but that just my opinion. Good example of a rare artifact if you ask me, Congrats!

That's a great find. Looks to me like it might be a type of hoe used for cultivating. Just my 2 cents.

Nice find!..

Good start to a hardstone artifact collection.

Keep em coming.

Really nice find, put it where you can see it frequently. Do you hunt year around or does the cold stop you?

Thanks guys, Gilmerman I hunt year round. The only time I take a break is deer, turkey season. Dont want to get shot. Thanks for your comments. John
