I was able to do some detecting yesterday with Rob and his brother...As you know, Rob had an excellent find, a 1787 New Jersey Copper. At the first site we hit I was able to find a intact spoon, a buckle and my first Indian Head Penny a 1890, which actually cleaned up pretty well. We hit two other sites which turned up a button and some other junk. This was about my 5th hunt. I'm really starting to take a liking to this hobby. There is no better feeling than finding a coin and the anticipation of getting home to clean it up. Why did I wait this long, I could have been doing this years ago!! The last picture is a compilation of the spoons I have found during my first 5 hunts...I'm thinking of changing my screen name to Spoonman..LOL

Nice job on your first indian head! Wow thats a lot of spoons! :o

Nice IH, why is it that a guy seems to find more spoons then forks or knives???

Good question, I have yet to find any forks or knives at the sites...just spoons.

Nice Indian. Looks like you have a great looking hunting spot. Maybe it was some sort of a picnicking spot, judging from the tableware.

Thas funny. I actually suggested to Steve that it could have been a picnic spot.

I know I told you this yesterday but man that indian head is in great condition. I had to tell you again. The design on that button is cool too. Very interesting. When I start to run short of spoons, I know who to talk to. Lol :laughing7: :laughing7:  I hope we can get out Wednesday.

Congratulation on the Indian head, it did clean up real nice. :o
My favorite would be the button. ;D
You seam to be learning fast how to set the detector up for spoons. LOL :D
No kidding you are doing well.

Congrats...Beauty of an IH! Great detail left

think about it, you can pick up a chunk of steak with your fingers and tear it with your teeth, have you ever tried to eat beans with a fork or knife LOL

WOW ~ that Indian Head cent is NICE!! So much detail on that coin! I LIKE IT A LOT!!! WOOHOO!! Congrat's on the nice find!

That button ain't junk! It's a Colonial Button

The pewter spoon handles (second and third from the left in bottom row of the spoon photo) are Colonial, too.

Nice work on the IH--the first one is the most difficult. After that, they turn up everywhere.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Sweeeet indian head. That coin is in very nice condition! Sending a big ATA-BOY your way for that first!
My god you sure are finding the spoons arent you!! I'm not sure but I think the DFX has a priority spoon selection that you need to turn down a little ::) ::). Good job

Hey Congratulations on a Super First IH! Looks great!

Glad you like the hobby. It also becomes more addictive when you live in a place that has lot's of history.

Yo Steve, I hope we can get out Wednesday. I think the weather is supposed to be fine. Theres spoons and broken crotal bells to be found. :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

My Pop had a saying: "If it was raining soup, we'd be the only ones out there with a fork".
I think you'd be all set, though.

WTG on a great-detail and great-color I.H.!
