I've been watching the archaeology dig going on in a field around the corner from my house now for several weeks. I happened to drive by the other day and noticed the little red flags were still in the ground but someone was bulldozing and grading the land so I stopped and asked the guy driving the machine if he new the owner of the lands phone number and he said he did and gave it to me. I then went home and called the owner and asked if I could have his permission to metal detect the land with a buddy of mine and he said sure anytime this week because he was getting ready to plant some winter wheat soon and then he was going to sell the land next year to a developer and once he does, all that is in the ground will then never be recovered. He pointed out to me that there was an old house that burned down and an old barn on the property along time ago. I did a little researching my self and read that back during the first world war this area had a small army of troops protecting the first welland canal which connects lake ontario with lake erie. Here are my finds for the first day and I hope it stops raining enough to go back again before he plants the wheat. My friend who is a Navy Vet was with me and verified the musket ball for me or I may have thrown it away. Thanks for looking and HH. ( Dennis.)

I will clean up the watch a little more for sure. This watch is gold filled not solid. But I still like it.

Way to go on your 'Firsts' nice ones to .

I wonder what the 'Arcies' were documenting.?

thanks Davers. They were documenting their native artifact finds. I was told they found some tools, points and old pottery shards.

Thanks for the reply , I thought it might be something like that.

Or 'they were giving to 'OK' for the site to be developed.

Hope you get more metal & maybe even a NA piece they missed.

Nice finds, congratulations!

The pocket watch is a cool find!

Nifty spot, be sure to keep an eye open after rains for Indian artifacts that the archaeologists missed. Hope you find more interesting goodies there!
