Before I fall a sleep each night I usually read about metal detecting/treasure hunting. Last night I read in a magazine that if I reduce sensitivity and run in "All Metal" mode I will pick up things I missed in trashy areas. This morning, between thunderstorms, I decided to try that technique in an area that has great potential and I have hit many times with good results. It is an abandoned church with a pastor's house next door. The Paster's house is 1920's and I have found a nice coin or two there. Of late, the number of signals have fallen off and I felt it was hunted out.
I turned down the sensitivity and went to 'all metal' on my Ace 250. Sure enough things "lit up". I was digging a bunch of clad pennies and some pop tops. Iron was everywhere but I could get around it if I listened closely. I decided the front steps area would be a good spot to check. I got a nickle/poptop tone that for some reason sounded like it needed to be dug. There it was, a 14k (5 grams) Men's Gold Wedding Band, bright and shiny only a few inches down. This guy must have been big because it fits loosely over my thumb. My First Non-Beach Gold - this hobby can be addictive.
I plan on researching who lived there and finding the owner if they are still alive. There is no lettering inside except the '14K' and a hallmark (see below). I couldn't find anything on the hallmark on the internet. Any ideas?
Thanks for reading and looking.
