My First Relic ( I think)...Need Info

I don't have any permissions or old homesteads etc. to hunt so I am relegated to parks and schools mostly...The other day I was fooling around in the yard and my across the street neighbor came over to talk....She said I could hunt her yard...woohoo, new ground!!! I went over and found clad and junk....was getting ready to leave and got the "ping" so I dug it and found this button....I have no idea about this type of thing since I never get em...can anyone tell me what type button, from what era etc....really curious about it....quarter is for size reference....Thanks for any help!!

It is a US Army "Great Seal" button. They were introduced in 1901 but yours dates from 1910 as that is when the rim was added. There is a thread on this forum dedicated to the Great Seal button. It is a long one but very informative. Here's a link:

I'd say there's evidence of the black finish that was used until 1923, narrowing the range to 1910-1923. At about 1-1/4" I'd guess it's from a WWI "great coat".
