Found my first ring today with the minelab f3 mine detector. Wasn't valuable or anything but it was still a nice find for my third time out. Found it at about 8 inches deep in the edge of the surf. Found a few coins and about 15 metal tent stakes, lol. You never know just how trashed our beaches really are until you start detecting...hard to believe there's so much junk hiding under the sand.

Congratulations on your First, and many more! :icon_thumright:

the first is always special! congrats

You're well on your way to digging silver or gold ring! :icon_thumright: I haven't dug gold yet, but my prettiest silver ring popped out in a scattered patch of old nails about five inches under sand -- if I hadn't persisted after digging seven nails & then hearing a similar signal, wouldn't have dug the ring! Keep having fun! Andi

Always exciting to find a ring. You hunting Wilmington surf or swimming areas in South Port? I want to know everything you can tell me about f3. Thanks.

Congrats on your first ring! Good job!Get Detecting!CARM

All rings count! Tent stakes...good thing you removed those...I can picture a kid digging a deep hole...jumping in and...bam ER trip.

Yeah, some people can walk 30 ft to a trashcan...they are too busy putting on sun block and watching the eye candy.

Just remember that scrap has value too. I toss all mine together except for what I can see is copper and brass and when enough is collected, a trip to the scrap yard pays for some more gas for the truck to do more detecting. Over time if you collect enough of the larger junk, you'd be supprised how much this junk is worth. Most often scrap is sold around $10-$13 per 100 lbs. Does take too many large iron items to reach this. Save it all. Congrats on the first ring. I found ring 6-7 for the year and finally they were good. Two 14K wedding bands. 1 yellow gold and 1 white gold. 1-4 were Avon junk and #5 was an Army ring that looks to be all junk metal as well. Keep huntin' :icon_thumleft:

Funny you mention this. A friend a few years ago was hunting a local lake beack and got a few signals in an area. HE dug them and they were broken bottles with the sharp edged burried upward. The metal tops were still on and this is what was sounding his detector. He notified the park rangers that these looked to have been burried this way on purpose. Another metal detectorist saved the day! There are some sick people out there.

Congrats on ya first ring.
