Hey guys,

I'm so stoked and excited, words can not express my feelings at the moment about this truly amazing find. I was using my new teknetics delta 4000 in a gridded search of my back yard. Sure enough my old tree has produced yet another coin. I'm not sure how long I was out there but I think it was well over an hour. After a long search, I had a weird signal and the object was 3 inches deep. It was choppy but the sound was a sweet signal and kept coming up as dime, quarter, 50 cents. I made a small plug, and low and behold something round and shiny popped out after shaking the dirt. After picking it up and carefully cleaning it off I saw her, the seated liberty. :notworthy: The front may be slightly eroded but I didn't care about the condition, it was still beautiful. The back however with the wreath and one dime looks brand new. My hands were shaking and adrenalin was definitely rushing through me as it did when I found the mercury dime. It was great to experience the same thrill again. I unfortunately can not make ot the date but I do see the number 18. can anyone else figure it out or should I clean it or not? I also found two buckles and a clock gear too.

Here are the pictures, enjoy!

This makes silver number 2. I can gladly check this off of my hunting list :laughing7:

Congrats on your seated, still looking for my first one. I'm no expert, but it looks like that coin was in a fire. I dug a walking half that has similar damage. Awesome find no matter what!!!

Congratulations on the seated!

loved seateds - even ones that have been thru fires!

NICE FIND. Still looking for my first seated. Get out thar and find its bigger sibling! HH

Really nice find. Jealous...

This is what ya do, take some bakeing soda and add water mix into a paste then just run some over that coin, you will get that date, congrats on your first seated coin...

Nice coin! Congrats the buckles you found are actually buckle covers used on horse tack

Dig until your arm falls off

Thanks, glad you guys liked it!

Good to get the Seated Monkey off your back, don't it?
And once you dig one, you can only go forward.
Kudos!
Carl

Very neat! Interesting how the back is clean and the front looks like it has little spots of silver melt, like in a hot fire or something. ???

Thanks, glad you guys liked it! Yeah, very strange. Makes me wander what happened here in the past. The house burnt down in the 1700's but was rebuilt. I looked up that baking soda trick for coins, I dont think it would be a good idea for silver ones.

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Congrats on the seated dime. It had to be minted before 1860, because from 1860 -91 the united states of america was moved from back of coin to the front. Mike.

Congrats! The first one I found was on private property.I remember putting it in my sock, because the owner of the property always wanted to see everything I had found. He wasn't getting something that took me over five years to find! Happy hunting.

Bakeing soda will not hurt that coin when I find silver coins in cole ash I use it and it never hurt the coin..

Congrats! :icon_sunny::blob9::icon_sunny: I'd be delighted to ever dig one! I like the spotty damage to your coin as it makes her look very mysterious! Have fun! Andi

I did the "trick" where you put the coin on a piece of aluminum foil on baking soda under and on top then set in boiling water in frying pan for about two mins and my Walking Liberty Half and Morgan Dollar came out looking like brand new. There is a you tube video and there is also a cleaning forum on our site. Check it out, I think Park Pirite is pointing you in the right direction. It's not like you would hurt it's value, It's a great find no matter what you decide to do with it.

Outstanding find. Keep up the good work!

First off, Very Cool that you have a seated coin in your backyard! Wonder how many others might be out there too.

Big congrats on your first one, nothing beats that feeling. ;-)

It's a very rough coin so in my opinion, cleaning is not going to hurt it. Use some baking powder and warm water in the sink and really work the baking powder in, it will turn as shiney as it is ever going to get (especially if it was in a fire). I say clean it and enjoy it!

Congrats again, wish you many more.
