Well I got my first metal detector on 3/17 and went out over the weekend. I ended up buying a Beach Hunter ID. I am still learnng the basics and how to properly comb the beach but this is what I ended up with at my local beach:

I have a few wheat pennies in there, what is the best way to try to clean these up??

Hiya Snapahed,
To clean the coins i find on the beaches here, i use a good heaped teaspoon full of table salt and enough DISTILLED Vinegar to cover the coins completely in an old drinking glass. Stir until all the salt has disolved then put in the coins. When the worst of the dirt and build up is gone then check every 1-2 hours to make sure it doesn't take it back too far. Also in between checks, take the coins out of the solution and give a good scrub under warm water, with a PLASTIC scouring pad. ( the sort you use for washing the dishes with ) then drop them back in the solution. It's hard work but it's worth it.
Also someone said on here that if it's an OLD coin, just clean with soap, water and an OLD tooth brush. So then maybe this way of cleaning might not be a good idea.
Hope this is helpful to you.??
All the very best to you and happy hunting too.
Ray.
