Found this last week but held off posting it because its from my city and I thought how nice it would be to find out when it was open for business what part of town and if real lucky maybe a picture. Guess what can't find a thing about it so if anyone can shed some light on this it would be a great help. About what time frame were these in use in general ?

Thanks for you time and help
Jimmy

OH YEAH!!! That's real nice! I love finding trade tokens! WTG!!!

Great token! Congrats to you.
Is that a 53 Chevy in your avatar? Very nice.

Trade tokens are very collectible. And even more so when you find one from your hometown! Congrat's!

Jimminy Jimmy - that's the right kind of thing to find! There is not a book yet on KY tokens, but I will send off an e-mail to the guy who is working on one, or at least compiling the reports of token listings. I'll post what he comes back with. In general, this type of token was popular from the 1930s to the 1950s - I only have a couple of directories that cover KY and this business was not listed in either. To find a pretty close time for it, take a trip to the city library and look through the old city directories until you find a listing for it. That listing should have both the address and the complete name of the proprietor. The surname Jul is fairly unusual, so it is entirely possible that Jul is a nickname for Julius or Julian or Julie, etc. And, that could be either a first or last name.

Thanks for the replies and as soon as I find more info on it will post. Had to go out of town yesterday so won't get to the library til next week now. Plan to spend time there when it rains but the way its going around here it might be next year ;D ;D.

Yes. That is a nice token.
How and where did you find it?
Have been working the grass plot between the sidewalk and street in the inner city of Louisville Ky. The parks around here have been beat to death so told my wife that I wouldn't come home with much but what I might find would be a quality find like this one. Couldn't be happier.

Yes its a 53. Started on it 15 years ago and still call it a work in progress.

John, Since finding the token don't think finding silver coins will bring me as much joy as this has. Will be back in that area next week and hope to find another.
Thanks All,
Jimmy
