Metal Detecting
Hello everyone. First time I’ve posted on this forum, I’m usually on the Coin Rill Hunting or infrequently on the Metal Detecting forums. Got the itch to hunt for Indian artifacts after Garscale’s awesome finds on the Brazos (BTW he has been a huge help to me), and jumped in with both feet. Got permission from a ranch owner friend here in West Texas who mentioned finding some cool stuff. Well, today was my 3rd day surface hunting this week and I’ve found some cool stuff myself! But today was my dream come true. I found a nice bird point laying on top of the hard packed sand. It’s 1-1/16” long and nearly perfect with a very small piece of one corner missing. I also found a nicely worked knife. I’m afraid I am hooked now. 0CE97ABA-2CC2-476C-B67C-EF31CC2DAF15.webp2791FEA4-D9EC-4311-B0A4-0941A632EFE8.webp

Not sure in your area but that’d be a washita around here. Very nice, pretty material too

Awesome 1st score, I'm sure that's enough motivation to carry on.

Very similar to Cahokia points but not near as old. The Aztecs in Mexico also used this style. It got around. Gary

You have the camps dialed in a little now. Congrats on the fine birdie. I predict paleo in your future.... You are in a great area.

Really nice point. I like the near-perfect shape. Congrats.
The only point I ever found (near Thomasville Ga 10+ years ago) was very similar in size and shape. The only difference I can see is mine had a little "dimple" where the material was removed on each side of the central area. I was told that was to remove even more weight.

Helluva first!

You’re off to a great start!

Well, there you go, a very nice first find! :icon_thumright: Hope you find many more.

That's the way you want to start. Really gets that blood pumping, doesn't it.

Great looking finds.

Great point! Cleaner than anything I've found....beauty !

Knife is cool too.

That knife is not getting as much attention as it deserves. Post more pics of it. Very likely a paleo artifact.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Here’s a few more pictures. The selfie wouldn’t cooperate.
