Waterbury Connecticut...and yes they made MANY buttons. Try holding the phone quite a few feet away from the button and zooming in for clarity..maybe a light above button?
I think Terry may have it...

Can you post a picture of the back? Are the stars above the eagle 5 or 6 pointed. Can you read the whole backmark? There are several variations of the Marine button so any more information you can supply will help get it correctly identified.

The Marine Corps uniform buttons only have the eagle and fouled anchor. The collar disks have the eagle globe and anchor. I don't know how old though, there were some slight changes over time with the wings on the eagle I seem to remember.

Until the O.P. signs back on and confirms what I believe I see, they appear to be six pointed stars.

It does to be a Marine Corps button, but the marines did not have their own individual style until the 19th century, but with that said, we need to see the back to get an age on it.

It is Marine Corps button, looking it up in " Record of American Uniform & Historical Buttons by Alphaeus H. Albert." They did go from 6 to 5 pointed stars, but I do not know the year of the change, it's not given.
