So I set out today with one goal in mind; to find at least one ring to hit the "50" mark. I've been determined to do this before the hunting year is over.
I went to one spot where I always dig up lots of older nickels; late 40's to low 60's but silver never shows up. Neither have any rings for that matter but I figured I might get lucky. As usual, I dug lots of nickels and other clad but not much of anything else (besides trash).
So I went to one of my other standby fields and started swinging. After hunting for maybe 45 minutes and digging lots of trash and more clad, I got a nice high hit and dug up this......

Its a small, once gold plated band. It's marked "1/60 10k RGP " with the makers mark ">M-H<". I tracked it down and it's made by McGrath-Hamin of Providence, RI. The RGP stands for "rolled gold plate". It's 1/60th genuine 10K gold. Oh boy; another piece for the junk pile.
Although it's junk, it's still ring # 50 so my prayer was answered and I'm grateful.
Then I hunted a while longer and after a while got another really nice high hit and out of the hole popped this........

...a Sterling St. Jude medal. It's kinda' small but it's a little more silver so once again, I'm happy. I actually really like this one. The image of St. Jude is really thick and it cleaned up nice.
I'm wondering if it's old based on where I found it and the fact that it's pretty scratched and worn. It's also marked "Chapel Sterling".
So then it got too dark to hunt so I called it quits. I finished the day with a pretty nice pile of clad and of course, lots of trash.
Overall I think this day ended well. I got my wish plus a little silver bonus. Now on to 100 rings by this time next year (hopefully).......
I guess that's about it.
Thanks for looking & HH......
