This is my grandpas’s shellback certificate. He crossed the line in 1925. I have on my wall next to mine. I crossed the line in 1992. I’m very impressed that it’s been around for so long. A bit of family “treasure”

Welcome from Indiana

I crossed April 23rd 1980 with approximately 6000 other sailors on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower. 39 years ago this week. 0000 Latitude, 030-35W Longitude. On the way there we had 500 Shellbacks and 5500 wogs. Coming home we did it again with 5500 Shellbacks and 500 wogs. Davy Jones, His Majesty's Scribe AND Neptunus Rex , Ruler of the Raging Main both signed my certificate also ! I bet your Grandpa was there watching over us.

The USS Memphis (CL-13) was a distinguished vessel. One honor, as you may know, on 3 June 1927, Memphis embarked Captain Charles A. Lindbergh and his plane at Southampton, England bound for Washington DC, following his historic nonstop first flight from New York to Paris.
Don.....

That is a very nice document, and a great piece of family memorabilia. Welcome to the forums.

Yep...I've got one of those too...circa 1973-1974 time frame...somewhere in my military records...Time for more...:coffee2:
