My kid wants to go metal detecting with me and i am thinking of buying him a metal detector and i found a tracker IV that is priced just right, is this model a good starter MD ?? i just don't want to buy him a "kids" MD because i know he will want to upgrade for one with more functions ...

any advise is appreciated...

I like mine A. If there's a coin around he will find it. Also fairly light and easy to swing.

I agree, the tracker IV is an OK starter detector for coins and rings etc, should have very little trouble finding stuff with this machine around the parks and gardens and school grounds and even at the beach in the dry sand.

Well i went and bought it, its nice compared to others in the same price range, we like the tone setting as this makes eliminating trash very easy. He found a couple of coins ( about 6" deep) in our back yard within an hour ;D , i had previously gone trough the whole back yard at least 4 times with my ACE 250 but somehow managed to miss those coins ( and possibly a few more) :laughing9: but oh well, more fun for us :icon_thumright: ...

Thanks to everyone for their advise ...

HOW OLD AND BIG IS YOUR KID? MINE IS 10 BUT A BIT SHORT FOR HIS AGE. I THINK THE TRACKER IS LIGHTER THAN THE SHARP SHOOTER. IT IS A LENTH PROBLEM FOR MY SON. LOWER SHAFT TOOO LONG.

I have the Tracker IV and it is a great machine for kids 10 years old. I had to cut the shaft down and put in a dowell rod so that my 10 year old daughter could use it comfortably though because it really doesn't adjust down to smaller sizes well. It's an easy mod and still lets me use it as well. The detector is very easy to use and gives great results for the price. It really can't be beat in my opinion. BTW... my daughter is just under 5 feet tall. She could use the detector before but it was just a little long for her. The detector itself is very lightweight.

Its a great starter........years of fun
