My Laton-Kingston Ca Finds 2016

These are some of my best find at Laton-Kingston Ca from January to May 2016.

Nice finds! My buddy and I have hunted Laton-Kingston for years and it's always been good for some fairly old coins and relics. There have even been a few seated dimes that have shown up out there. You mentioned in a previous post that you've found a lot of gold jewelry. If you don't mind me asking, do you primarily hunt the riverbed or do go up into the park? I've only been able to pull out one gold ring, and it was a recent drop that was just outside of one of the bathrooms in the park itself. And frankly I was lucky to find that just due to the amount of foil, bottle caps and trash that's out there.

Nice amount of silver & "CONGRATS" on your finds, that is something to be proud of & man that ACE 350 is dead on - thanks for sharing your pictures with us and I wish you many more fantastic finds while out dirt fishing.

I was mainly all over the riverbed closer to the park. The park had to much trash. There is still plenty of good stuff out there. Did alot of grid work. 10x10 pick out the trash kind of fast the come back and swinging very slow with my TDI PRO.

The land for Laton-Kingston Park was purchased by Fresno County in 1969 and developed into a public park within a year or two. However, that stretch of the Kings River has been a popular swimming area for many years before that.

Just south and across the river on Kings County side there used to be another park, Kingston Park. Due to budget cuts it was closed by Kings County in 2011. I've walked across the dry riverbed and have hunted that park but have never found anything other than clad. It's pretty overgrown these days and difficult to swing in.

From the little bit of research that I have done, the actual city of Kingston was located on the south side of the river and a few hundred yards west of Laton-Kingston Park. In fact there have been certain times when the conditions are right and the sands have shifted enough that I've found what's left of the wood pilings for the original Kingston bridge. Back in the latter part of the 1800s the Kings River was many times bigger than it is now because there was no Pine Flat dam to restrict its flow. The settlers accommodated for any possible flooding so the established their town a good distance back from the river. The area where most of the town stood is now orchards.

Wikipedia has an article on Kingston, California that is actually pretty good if anyone is interested in reading a brief summery of the town's history.

What kind of depth are you able to get with the TDI?

12" plus I was digging some holes somethings finds multiple coins in the same hole. The Whites TDI PRO is the beast. My buddy swings an AT PRO and I will follow behind him and find stuff that his machine misses. My deepest hole that I dug on my TDI PRO and this is just a guest but I want to say about 24" for a half dollor.

Well, sure, not doubt the TDI will go wickedly deep. Go figure, it's a pulse. But when you avail yourself of that balls-to-the-walls depth it can give, don't you go bonkers digging nails and iron ?

I know there's some audio and ground balance tricks that can be sued on the TDI to knock out iron (and even tell high vs low conductors). But the minute you employ those tricks, you loose a lot of the fabled depth. Your depth on coins then drops to no better than something like a Sov. or an Explorer . Ie.: 11" or so on a coin.

If you have the liberty to "dig all" (like for beach hunting), I could see using a pulse. But for a sites with too much iron ..... ?
