Hello

I praying others had this experience or else my machine is shot

i run field2 5 tones, usually, recovery speed 5/6 iron bias 2, and all metal on all the time

had a great day yesterday deep woods searched for 4 hours and found a new extension to an an existing site and found an evasive George II half penny

the machine got a bit mucked up as it was damp conditions, so i went home read the manual and it said give it a light hose over, which I did

I went back to same spot today all excited, it started heavy rain, could not get the machine to ground balance , kept making noises, and numbers 1 and 2 showing up all the time over iron areas, and over no metal area's, when you usually only see the square on screen for multi tone I had a 1, with 10" dig dept, iron grunt very low and no high tones whats so ever, even for blips for iron falseing which is all over this site,
I threw a quarter on the ground and i got a 2 and low tone,
thinking maybe interference from electricity in air as it was a bit of a thunder storm

went home in a bad way,,

when i got home no rain, it never had the storm i was in , and it was nice and dry

did 3 factory resets tested it with quarters, half dollars nickels nails etc on the patio in Multi frequency

still ground balance acting strange staying at zero when usually in my yard it goes to 20 and making noised at each swing, to the point i could not hear any iron grunt

the ground constantly giving off beeps

a silver 1895 quarter in multi would only ring up at 4-5, a modern quarter same and it had even iron grunt, nickel ground sound

kennedy half dollar 2-to negative 4 and iron grunt ,

Bronze relics very low sound, the only decent sound was from and small suspender openwork clip which rang at 12

all the sounds even with a slow recovery speed no more that 5 inches off the ground

if I went higher no sound at all, tried it in 15 khz and it gave off semi normal signals but still rough sound
tried it in park 1/2 and field 1, still very bad readings on good coins and bronze objects

Thats it I am Fk'd , I said to myself so I took a video of what was going on so I could show manufacturer, and in my despair forgot to hit record

Better get it cleaned up to send it back

So started cleaning with damp cloth, and decided to take off coil cover, for the first time and low and behold water inside, I gave coil and cover a good cleaning, and let them dry, disconnected coil wire and it was fine, so reconnected it,,

Gave it a try again without the coil cover and it started to act semi normal, although still signals ( recovery speed 5) only 6" off the ground, but was getting proper numbers on coins

It started getting a bit electric outside, thunder and flashes machine was jumping all over the number range then started raining so I had to pack it all up and go inside

I am praying the water inside the coil cover was causing all this mess,

going to taking back to same spot in the morning to see if any bad behaviour continues

anYbody experience any thing like this??

Not really the same experience, but I have noticed I have to take the coil cover off more regularly to clean it out - especially after beach hunting when a lot of sand gets in there. Please keep us posted on how this works out for you. I have had mine submerged in both salt- and fresh- water, several times and have not experienced any problems. Fingers crossed for you! :icon_thumright:

I have seen people report that water in collecting in the coil cover has resulted in GB readings that seem off. One person reported that when he comes out of the water onto dry sand the GB rings up 50 to 70 when normally it is 0 and when the "coil dries out" he gets normal GB readings. So there may be something to having water and dirt in the coil cover messing with either GB or with target signals outright.

thanks terry

i have never detected in water, do you dry out between cover and coil after each time out?

Thanks Hugh,, thats a comfort to hear that , tomorrow will tell

BTW does it seem to be normal again now that you've cleaned it out?

I havent noticed this on the equinox yet but I have had similar problems with other machines. If you had bits of rust or black sand in the coil cover with water moving around you could get strange readings.

going to head out soon, waiting for the rain to clear
I hope its ok as

I have been researching your gold mode in iron and want to try it out

thanks terry

Yes, I have gotten into that routine if I'm at the beach or in the rain.:skullflag:

Oh man my Nox 800 was doing the same thing yesterday! I took the coil cover off and there was a lot of sand and dirt in there. So I cleaned it out and brushed off the coil. Taking it out today for a spin. Hope that was the problem!

this is why I just take the coil off the equinox and replace it with a rubber chicken.

This was always a problem on Explorers so I'm guessing the hotter Equinox will be more so. Dirt and water between the coil and coil cover = instability. Worse on a salter water beach, conductive salt water and beach sand, black sand in particular between the cover and coil = instability. I just leave my coil cover off when salt water beach hunting on wet sand.

Yes I think the wet in-between coil and cover was the big issue,
I brought it back to exact same spot and it seemed to work fine
I thought the volume and beeps were bit muffled at first but, I think its on the mend,
if broke I thought that was it, no detecting a for a few weeks, How could i continue living !!!

Thanks all for you concern and advice

Just a minor thing I'm sure.

Mine worked awesome after the coil cover cleaning :D

That’s good news
I am glad for you
Mine played up again for 10 mins the next day
Not sure if it was EMI
But I was in the middle of the woods
I just get noise canceling and ground balancing an moving
And it got normal again
It is behaving since

Glad all worked out well for you and that your Nox is back to normal.
