I had success today greatly reducing the EMI chatter from overhead power lines.
As I approached the lines - the EMI got to where the detector was almost not usable with a reasonable gain setting.
I first ran the noise cancel where I was, but that did not give too much improvement.
So I had another idea - I stood right underneath the power lines (maybe 15 feet above) and ran the noise cancel.
During the routine, I held the coil fairly high off the ground, but still oriented as it would be for detecting.
What an improvement! I was able to hunt and find coins (all clad-too bad) right under the lines.
So maybe - getting the detector fairly close to the EMI source helped it better ID the right configuration to cancel it.
Seems to have worked for me, maybe something to try.
