I strapped on the water, grabbed my machine, hit the woods and went to a very old trusty site. A spot where it is paved with bits of iron EVERYWHERE, mostly little square nails. I had the mind set of going extremely slow and listening hard and trying not to wander. If one were to dig every signal it would probably look like a deeply plowed field or a bomb site... I have found a ton of awesome stuff in the immediate area about three acres, over the past two years dating from the early 1800's, a large cent from 1812 and very early military items (naval buttons and some really choice intricate awesome things)
After pulling a couple of buttons (if anybody recognizes the fancy button that would be great) and a thimble, I got a monster ear blaster and it looked deep.
Up came a super toasty coin and I figured it a large cent. While digging it, a rock gave it a rough kiss and left a mark on it. 😥 Oh well I thought and kept on searching as I could not make out anything on the coin other than my scratch.
I got home and told my buddy and he said it could be a King George. I got excited and compared the coin to some photos on the net and positively identified it as a King George II 1/2 penny! You can see the back of his head along with his wreath crown as well as the bottom of the chair leg curl on the back.
I am so pumped! I think it is 1730ish.
Awesome. Time to sweat and dig some more. Have fun!
