I strapped on the water, grabbed my machine, hit the woods and went to a very old trusty site. A spot where it is paved with bits of iron EVERYWHERE, mostly little square nails. I had the mind set of going extremely slow and listening hard and trying not to wander. If one were to dig every signal it would probably look like a deeply plowed field or a bomb site... I have found a ton of awesome stuff in the immediate area about three acres, over the past two years dating from the early 1800's, a large cent from 1812 and very early military items (naval buttons and some really choice intricate awesome things)
After pulling a couple of buttons (if anybody recognizes the fancy button that would be great) and a thimble, I got a monster ear blaster and it looked deep.
Up came a super toasty coin and I figured it a large cent. While digging it, a rock gave it a rough kiss and left a mark on it. 😥 Oh well I thought and kept on searching as I could not make out anything on the coin other than my scratch.
I got home and told my buddy and he said it could be a King George. I got excited and compared the coin to some photos on the net and positively identified it as a King George II 1/2 penny! You can see the back of his head along with his wreath crown as well as the bottom of the chair leg curl on the back.
I am so pumped! I think it is 1730ish.
Awesome. Time to sweat and dig some more. Have fun!

Wow that's a nice early coin, good hunt, and congrats. Don't you just love when you get a big signal like that, and the anticipation that goes with it!

Great find my oldest is an 1886 quarter Wow Good job must take lots of patience to hunt that spot with all the iron

Sweeeet coin hope you can get a date off it

You may actually have a KgII farthing, which are found much less frequently. Tough to tell given the condition, but from the picture of you holding it it looks a bit small for a halfpence. They only differ by 4mms or so (25mm for the farthing). Any chance you have some calipers handy?

Congrats deserved no matter what!

Hello all, thanks! Hey Z.K. i just broke out the calipers, it is 28mm-30mm

Congrats on the old copper and other finds

half penny and hulk hands both confirmed! :laughing7:

Is this your first 1700s coin? If so, big congrats on the new club membership

Nice finds! Congrats on KGII, HH

Yup my first 1700's, my oldest prior was a 1817 large cent. Is it weird I don't want any body else touching it? It like to think (and know) I am the only one to hold it in +-200 years! So cool!!!

Congrats on bust'n in to the 1700's! Great finds. Looks like patience pays off again!

Good for you, and not weird at all.
Given your locale, hope you set your sights to crack 1600s. Good luck
