Hey guys. Been a few weeks since I've posted. Played hookey from work and was able to get out there for a cold December hunt. The first couple inches of soil were frozen but underneath was still soft and workable. Hunted an early 1800s house and popped up this 1835 half dime silver!!! Even with my small coil it just gave me a quick blip of 80s, similar to a tiny copper coil clipping. I ALMOST kept going. Glad I didnt!! This is my oldest silver to date, blowing away my previous PR of an 1877 seated quarter. Some other notables, 4 wheaties, a huge iron marble/ball bearing(?), kid's police badge and a silver plated frame. HH!!!

Thanks guys!! I'm on cloud nine right now. Would the details on the coin put it in an EF condition? I'm not too knowledgeable on grading.

IMO, it would grade at least XF45 from what I can see in a photo. It might be even higher once the dirt is rinsed off. Be careful you don't scratch it, or do any kind of damage doing that. It would reduce it's value. Nice find! :icon_thumright:

I think the details may even be better. It's a beautiful coin. I don't think it would grade well. Obverse has the ding in the rim and there appears to be pitting.

Wow that is an excellent find congrats on deciding to dig that signal!

Amazing find! Wow. I found a silver, Philippines 10 Centavo earlier this year. It is tiny. I looked it up and a half dime is even smaller. Hard to believe they actually carried coins that small around on a regular basis. No wonder they lost them haha. Killer find and big congrats!

Gotta love those 'Half Dimes' They seem to have fared well over the years 'Condition'.

I thought it was cause of their small size but I've seen many a 'Trime' worn almost smooth.

Awesome find.
Merry Christmas

Congrats on your oldest silver. That is one nice looking coin.
