Here in the Mountains of Colorado, Celts and grooved Axes are non existent. A few years back I was in Indiana for several months, and got permission to walk some fields. One field was just rich in artifacts and I pounded it hard. The other fields were big but not much of anything. But I walked them. I came across a small camp that had some flakes and a scraper. but I was only half way through the field. so I continued exploring the rest of the field with nothing else. I headed back to that small spot to give it the twice over on the way back to the truck. On the way there I was on a small knoll just across a small wash that separated where I had found the scraper and flakes when I spotted this Celt. It was a day maker for me and one find I smile when I pick it up. one I was able to check off the list.

I hear ya I've found one small Celt here in Maine...It seems adzes and gouges were the tools of choice.Celts and axes are pretty scarce around my neck of the woods...Not sure what's up with that.Because they had their purpose. The Celt and axe I would imagine were the tools that got the whole ball rolling with at least the making of dugouts and downing trees for structures...mjm

Nice rare find especially in that condition. Man that dirt looks familiar!
