Left Sunday afternoon for Grand Junction for the night and got up Monday morning to pick up stuff there. Headed to Creede Colorado out on highway 50 Monday morning. Took what's called the Lake City cutoff, which now they must have renamed it Blue Mesa cutoff, but dang no time to do a bit of artifact searching. After I made it to Creede I went back about the same way I came on Colo 149 to do a trip over Cottonwood pass. It was cold and drizzly rain up there which is a rather surreal kind of weather that high up and in the distance of a wet lush high mountain meadow I saw a hugh big bull moose foraging, but he was to far off to get a good shot with a phone cam. Made it home Monday eve at 9:30. Alls back to settling down in the Rockies now that schools gone back. Sure made a heck of a difference in tourism just from a week ago. The last shot is the setting sun shining on the Climax Molybdenum Mine and a place I once worked.

Nice country to explore and great pics. I head out every weekend on the same types of excursions. Lots to see and find if you get out there.

I do feel fortunate that the job I have allows me to experience such terrain, but at 66 I'm feeling the effects of so many hours behind the wheel and the pressure these mines lay on me at times.

The sky is so blue!! I never see it that pretty around here. So jealous!!

Tourism still kinda up there here. Been doin 80 hour weeks since June to keep up. However, got a week vacation comin up right after Labor Day, if I get approved, and I'm fixin to run up to the Red Desert in Wyoming and maybe I can get some good pics.

The Red Desert. Pretty vast country out there. Back in around 1966 or 67 we took long trips in a station wagon pulling a camper from Iowa. I remember I couldn't wait to see a desert for the first time. I would look ahead at our route which was west on I80 following a Rand McNally road map and I see on the map a place called the Red Desert ahead. I wasn't disappointed when we arrived, but I was sure hoping I would see lots of tall cactus plants, as I had some fascination for cactus back then and even had a few little store bought varieties I would spend my allowance on back then in my room, because we had no cactus in Iowa. Well I hope you get that time off approved. Once I was driving through the area west of green river back in the early 90s and saw ahead off to the side of the highway what I thought was a horse with a funny looking slow gallop. When I got close it was a cow moose just trucking along in the barren country out there. She seemed lost, but maybe she knew where she was heading? You just didn't see that many moose back then and now they're a fairy frequent sight all up and down the central mountains.
