My Son's First IH
Even though my son is not a member of this forum, I would like to share his story (and excitement) of finding his first Indian Head penny.
My son is 40 years old, and when he detects, he has his daughter as his assistant. She is also a learning detectorist, who has some finds of her own to boost about.
He has been detecting for a little over a year, and has done very well. As a matter of fact, he has found more rings, silver and gold, and coins than I have in this last year. He runs my old Whites 6000 Di Series 3 detector, which is now his, and also I have given him my Ace 250, and he is now using it almost exclusively.
It has been blistering hot here, as it has almost anywhere in the US, and he has been doing the same thing as I have, and that is to stay inside where its cool,
BUT
He noticed that the city had torn about 20 feet of sidewalk out along an old building, and the pull was just too much, so off he and his assistant went for a hot hunt.
When he showed up at my house, he was just about jumping up and down with excitement. He told me that not only had he found the oldest coin yet in his detecting career, but also his first Indian Head Penny!!! The excitement in his voice, and the look of pride on his face was priceless!!!!!
This is the kind of excitement that I love to see and hear about, and is what keeps me going out to see whats in that ground just around the cornor.
He also found a tax token, which is the second one he has found. The picture of the token is not the one he found, but one just like it.
Thanks for looking and reading.
Am I proud of the boy??!!!!
YOU BET I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Hunting.
