What came to mind as I read your post was maybe a bunch of bird shot in the soil.

I have seen metal detectors go off on tall grass, and some are "hermedically sealed" to prevent this,
(not sure what that is, but I think its some kind of sealer inside the coil)
but I think your best bet is to turn the Sensativity down until it does not make any noise...
Grass or no Grass...

An other possibility would be active or old electical wires in the ground, can give those kind of signals !
