My two coins I use to make sure my detectors are working correctly

I'm pretty new to MD but I grew up around my step dad who was a geologist and he had several detectors. One thing he alwasy did was carry a few coins to make sure things were setup correctly. I carry a .999 silver coin (Siver round that you can buy from a coin dealer usually around 15 bucks) and a Brass Coin. Both coins will register a VDI of 98+ the pure silver will pull a 99. Both are the size of a silver dollar. I just do this to make sure my dector is registering correcly. Don't know if anyone else does this.

I just use clad if I have any doubt that the detector is having any issues.

Why would you use 2 test coins that ring as the same VDI?
Try a quarter and a nickel and then you will know if your notching out the gold if you use any discrimination.

Maybe to check if they make the same sound on a beep and dig (Tesoro for example)? In my case, I check with my wedding ring or clad, like Loco-Digger.

Two different metals that should give the same tone. I usually always have loose change with me but these stay with my detector case. More a habit than anything. If you look at most VDI lists most don't include brass. I just know they both pull a VDI at 98-99 and a good solid tone.

Ive actaully tested Real silver dollars and then the China fakes before. The reals read very hi as they should, the other read in the low/mid 80s on the ATP.

Its good to test them out, but things ready crazy in the dirt sometimes

I agree. The sliver coin is .999 oz of silver so it even burried it will pull a 98 or 99 ..not burried it is a solid 99. Most silver dollars are not even close to .999 silver.

What did you Morgan read as? Ive only found one silver dollar with my ATP and it was Peace dollar that read as a 94, my halves always read as a 91-92

It read 94 but a faint signal.
