I have been penny popping with my dads old Garrett Treasure Ace 350 for a couple of years before completely falling in love with the hobby. I recently purchased a Garrett AT Pro and secured a permission on 250 acres close to my university with a standing 1900 house and various pre-1871 homesites in the woods. After two days I ended up with my first silver: a 1951 Rosie, two double bit axeheads, an old buckle (of which I do not know the age), various wheaties, countless shotgun headstamps, harmonica reeds, a Disston Handsaw handle "button" that says "Warranted Superior Pat. Dec. 27th, 1887", and a possible mid 18th century brass butt plate. Overall, it was a fantastic hunt and it definitely fueled the fire to continue my newfound obsession. I am unsure of the age on the butt plate or whether it's authentic or a reproduction but it is still an amazing find. Any further information on any of these finds would be greatly appreciated!

I have no doubt it is authentic and you are on a very nice site. I clean up those old axes and rehandle them. Some will have the makers marks after cleaning. Welcome to the obsession!

Some cool finds Buckeye3. Congrats

Very promising site for sure. Looks like a musket sling buckle.

Awesome! Love that butt plate

Your hooked for sure now. Nice finds. Like someone’s profile on here declares, the urge to detect and dig just seems to continue to grow.

Welcome! Most all of us here have kind of an obsession. As you progress in the hobby, you'll be looking at electrolysis and other cleaning methods like tumblers (Go Harbor Freight and get the double!)

You got a great start in the hobby! Congratulations :)

Excellent relic hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:
