At the suggetion of T'net members I am posting in the What Is It topic to see if anyone has some information on the metal schnauzer terrier and pelican below
Hello and Happy New Year to all.
Managed to get access to a large lot adjacent to an old home that I have wanted to hunt. Here are my finds.
Today was my first day using my Cen-Tech pinpointer ($16. at Harbor Freight.) It was an eye opener. I can see where a pinpointer will help you recover deep targets. In the past, I might have abandoned a hole that had pulled me down deep but with a pp you can figure out just where in the "tunnel" to dig. Again, a real eye-opener. <p>I found the 1937 "Seine" fishing license (Seine fishing is the use of a vertically hung net weighted down to the sea floor.) It ws at about 7 inches and under roots. This was a dig I would have certainly given up on without a pin pointer. I also found (not shown) an old electrical plate at about 9 inches down. The two animals were also in the same yard. They are very nicely modeled and appear to me to be circa 1940 or so. They were found shallow and very close to one another - anyone recognize them?MVC-001S.webpMVC-001S.webp[bg=http://forum.treasurenet.com/images/coinsc.jpg][/bg]

I don't recognize the animals, but I'm thinking they were part of a Chess Set.. What are they made out of? Breezie

I'm mainly just posting to get Email notices.

Interesting find(s)

I was thinking along the same lines as Breezie - chess or board game pieces.

I did notice that the pelican appears to be "attached" to the base, whereas the dog appears to be a solid cast. Just wondering if the manufacturer would make them differently for the same game, or if they are possibly unrelated other than being some type of novelty item like you might have gotten for a penny at an arcade or sundry-type store.

Just my two cent's worth ... or should I say "one cent's" worth?

i agree with Breezie. the way the bottum is shaped it seems they where made to be moved alot and not just a collectable that never moves.

I've been called crazy before, and maybe I am ...

But I've seen that "earless" dog image before!

I can't put my finger on it right this minute, but I'm thinking along the lines of the Mutt and Jeff, Bringing Up Father, Felix The Cat, Betty Boop, Katzenjammer Kids, era of the "teens" or 1920's. It's right on the tip of my poor memory ... but currently eludes me and my search.
