This was a mystery when it popped up at an early 19thc homesite on Sunday morning. The Deus must've liked the hole and the concave surface of the iron, if I remember correctly it registered in the high-90s. I usually just consider these as 'junk iron' finds, which often pop up on these early settlement sites. I've seen similar shaped finds ID'd as the core of early military epaulets. It gives shape and a rigid form for the fancy gold braid. I'm not saying it is, but it sure fits the shape. :icon_scratch:

For the time being, it'll reside on the 'iron finds I just can't throw away pile'. :laughing7:
Here are some close-up pics, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Thanks,
Dave
