I found this yesterday at the site of a massive ammunition depot explosion in 1945. The base is exactly 3 inches in diameter and is very heavy. It has a metal jacket and what I thought was a lead core but it is attracted to a magnet...as is the jacket. As seen in the pictures it is rifled but based on where it was found I don't think it was purposely fired. Any ideas as to what this may be?

You might have a chunk of a 3 inch hotchkiss shell, possibly a fired one that was on someones desk or something. it looks like it was blown in half when the depot went up.
