This was found behind an old carriage house built in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Any help on ID?

Looks like it may be brass? Some kind of sliding lock mechanism?

The teeth on it seem to be purposeful. It's only about 2 inches

Surely some sort of lock and/or latch...but unsure what it would go to...post it on the "what is it?" forum and I guarantee some eagle-eyed T-netter can put a positive i.d. on it...thx...ddf

My thought is part of a vintage rifle peep sight, but I doubt it is just made me think of them.
