Napoleonic Button (1790's-1815)

Went out for a bit in the back pasture to dirt fish... Glad I did. I found a French Button from the Napoleonic Wars with the number 23 (probably their 23rd regiment) on it. As well, I found a coin about 30 feet from it. I recovered about 11 Centesimi coins from around that time period over the past 10 months here in Italy. There is soo much more here just waiting to be uncovered!!! I think the wifey wishes she'd come out this time... She's always the first one out the door, but decided to do her cardio today instead.... :icon_thumleft: IMG_3966.webpIMG_3967.webpIMG_3968.webp

Seriously Steve where have you been? You disappear in some park and the next thing you're walking out your door and digging this Sweet Find in your backyard.

That's a sweet button! I love military buttons from that period.

cool digs, I'd detect all I could if I were in Europe...

MAN SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN WITH ALL THE LUK................LOVE THEM REG BUTTONS . VANZUTPHEN

tylerbdad,
Thnx for the kind comment! The military has me busy and traveling all over the globe. Currently I'm on leave and have the opportunity to detect... I tell ya, keep in touch cause the best has yet to come!!!! Airborne & Air Assault.....

Steve in PA,
I get all hyped up even when I find trash, so you KNOW I loose all control when I find coins and relics from the past.... Especially cause I'm in Italy right now...

Loco-Digger,
If your ever in the neighborhood, give me a holler... I have some great places just screaming "dig me, dig me"....

That's a killer button bud. Live to see it cleaned up. Looks to be a beauty

Thanx Sutphin!!! I'm honored to be allowed to detect here. All the Italians are soo willing to let me dig and keep all my finds. At the end of a hunt, I offer anything I find to the owners, but all want me to keep it.. I'm truly honored.... :)

Thats a good-un. Hard to see but it looks a bit more like a 28th??

That is one very nice button.

Crusader, I can see where you'd think it's possibly 28th Reg, but after cleaning it from earlier, you can definitely tell it's 23rd Regiment... If you look below, you'll see the 40th Regiment I found one day later out back!!! Been a heck of a ride over here!!!40th REG button image.webp

OK, thats easier to see.

If I were you, I would keep that 40th as it is. The Green highlights the letters.

You better believe I ain't gonna touch it! It's in Gem condition... There has to be many more out there waiting to be dug! Again, thnx for the help

Nice save! The history of Napoleon's Grande Armée is the stuff of legends.
