Native American Mortar and Pestle?

Opinions please.
The father of friend of mine found these on their NW Florida farm many years ago. It was always thought to be a mortar and pestle used by the Native American Indians that lived in the area. This area was home to large numbers of Creek Indians well into the late 1800’s. The area has a large spring fed creek that has multiple sources of underground limestone cave springs that form the headwaters. These have been sitting in a 1920’s farmhouse for years, maybe time to get some opinions on it. It looks like limestone found near the creek. Thoughts?

P.S.
I also posted this on the “What’s it?” forum.

It doesn't look like the typical mortar & pestle.

This what I compared it to. The most available type of stone in this area is limestone and sandstone.

I think I can see some pecking on both tools.

I wouldn’t want to grind corn on it with those holes, looks like someone’s tried it out, different patina.

I saw the different patina as well.

Thanks for the opinions.

Possible for sure. Any other artifacts from the area? I'm originally from Ft. Walton Beach. I have a few points from around Escambia Bay.

I stopped by that Native Spirit store on the way home today and showed the owner what I thought might be a mortar and pestle. He said it is a Native American tool called a 'nutting stone' and that's why it has that indention in it. He said the local Native American used it for cracking open nuts! He even had one similar to it in his store!

Fresh water snails not nuts. By creek and right size.

Just an opinion from trying to crack a snail between rocks for fishing bait. I have a pile of fossilized?snail shells that were all cracked in same spot like done on a machine. In same area near creek found miniscule peices of shell spiral flated on stone and broken where holes had broken during drilling. Banner vote here!
